Factors Influencing on Dropouts at Undergraduate Level in Private Universities of Bangladesh: A Case Study

Private universities are playing a significant role in expanding education in Bangladesh. Every year many students get admitted into these universities. However, many of the students can not complete their graduation level. The main purpose of this paper was to conduct an investigative study on factors influencing on dropouts at undergraduate level in the private universities of Bangladesh. For achieving the purpose of the study, a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods was used. A dropout survey was developed to determine the factors which influence students’ attrition from the university programs. 100 students who had dropped out were asked to explain the causes behind their decisions. They have been contacted over phone or personally. The findings of the study show that the most important factors affecting students ‘dropouts are the pressure of study, financial problems, and going abroad took the second and the third places. Some recommendations based on research findings have also been included in this paper to control this leakage.
